Why?

Greetings!

I'm here to practice stringing words together, hopefully in ways that at least I find amusing and worth reading.  I've been more than a little hesitant to start a blog.  I don't even like the word "blog."  It conjures images of ranting political windbags, lunatic shut-ins, wanna-be sportswriters and rambling narcissists hoping their blogs become the next "Julie and Julia."  I aspire to all of that and more!  Okay, maybe not.  Like most writers, I like to have other people read my work.  I even like feedback, as long as it's all praise!  ;)  I don't pretend to be Douglas Adams or Hemingway or Mark Leyner, or even Christopher Moore.  I also won't expect this blog to be read by anyone outside of my family and friends, but all are welcome to give it a look.

I am here for fun.  If I end up with lots of readers and feedback, that's great.  If I never hear a peep from anyone, that's cool, too.  I've written in a vacuum for years, and I will be better for the practice.  Beyond that, I don't really have a specific goal, here.  I just enjoy putting words together, usually in fairly silly ways.  Hopefully, some of this drivel will be as much fun for you to read as it is for me to write.

Mostly Harmless Drivel will go wherever it goes.  This will be a writer's version of Forrest Gump's multi-year run back and forth across the country.  I just feel like writing.  Writers need to write.  I've been encouraged to make my written wanderings available to others.  I will post stuff here for a while and see how it goes.  I will not engage in political blather, because really - who needs another source of that stuff?  I will try not to prattle on about my boring day, my family, my job (that will be easy while I'm unemployed), sports minutiae or what I had for dinner - although I can't guarantee none of it will ever come up.  Some of the initial posts will be familiar to a couple of friends and my immediate family, but I promise more new material is in the works.

I hope you enjoy your time here.  Thanks for reading!
